Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni is excited to announce the creation of the Public Safety Building.
In alignment with Council’s Corporate Strategic Plan goal of fostering a complete community that is safe, healthy and inclusive, the City has purchased a building located at 3075 3rd Avenue in the Uptown District. This building will be renovated to house the public safety team and is scheduled to open mid-2021.

Port Alberni, BC – At present the Echo ’67 Aquatic Centre continues to be closed to the public. At the next Regular Meeting of City Council on September 14, 2020, Council will consider the Aquatic Centre operating model for the remainder of 2020.
Port Alberni, BC – In alignment with one of Council’s 2019-2023 Corporate Strategic Plan goals, environmental leadership and responsibility, the City of Port Alberni has partnered with The Fur-Bearers and Van Isle Wetlands to address beaver conflict sites. In support of wildlife coexistence, the City is proud to be the first Vancouver Island community to have beaver conflict sites fitted with ‘flow devices’ that will reduce lethal trapping while protecting infrastructure, wildlife, and the greater community.
Port Alberni, BC – At the June 18, 2020, Alberni Valley Community Forest (AVCF) Annual General Meeting, Chairman, Jim Sears presented the City of Port Alberni a $2 million dividend cheque from revenues produced by the AVCF Corporation’s operations.
“Alberni Valley Community Forest operations produced a very healthy return in 2019, which puts us in a very healthy financial position,” said Jim Sears, AVCF Chairman. “Given the global pandemic and the resulting financial hardships felt at all levels, we feel this is the time for us to share our successes.”
Port Alberni, BC – The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD), City of Port Alberni and CUPE Local 118 are pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Karen Freethy to the temporary position of Emergency Support Services Director with the ACRD for a six-month term.
The three parties entered into a Secondment Agreement to allow for the development and coordination of an Emergency Support Services Program within the Alberni Valley.
Port Alberni, BC – To assist local businesses in finding innovative and creative ways of servicing the community, the City has established a set of guidelines that will allow approved businesses to expand their operations onto sidewalk areas and other City-owned properties.
