Permissive Tax Exemption

The Permissive Tax Exemption is available for qualifying, registered non-profit organizations using property for municipal, recreational, religious, cultural or charitable purposes.

The application deadline is June 29th, 2017 for the 2018 tax year.

Places of Public Worship

Statutory exemptions apply to buildings and land beneath the buildings utilized for public worship.  Council provides permissive tax exemptions for ancillary buildings and lands on it Places of Public Worship Exemption Bylaw and will review these on a four year basis.  A review was undertaken in 2015 for a four year term commencing 2016.

Other Non-Profit Organizations

All applicants are required to complete a Permissive Tax Exemption Application for the 2018 application year.

If the application is approved, a short Permissive Tax Exemption Eligibility Confirmation must be submitted annually  by June 29th for the following tax year.  The renewal application is confirmation that ownership and use of the property has not changed.

Other Available Programs

Uptown Revitalization Tax Exemption Program:  This program is designed to provide tax relief in the uptown commercial area for property upgrades and new development.  Depending on the level of investment, exemptions may apply for up to 10 years.
