Port Alberni Water Restored - Restrictions Lifted

Friday, March 10, 2023

Port Alberni – The City of Port Alberni has restored water to the City and surrounding areas following a
closure that lasted just over 24 hours. All water usage restrictions are lifted.

“We are very happy that the repairs went smoothly and the team at the site of the waterline break
were able to restore water in a timely fashion,” explained Sharie Minions, Mayor of the City of
Port Alberni. “We did what our community always does when things get tough – we worked together
until the challenge was overcome. We are thankful for the community’s cooperation and for support
we received from neighbouring local governments and First Nations.”

The waterline break was repaired at approximately 3 p.m., and water flow was restored within an
hour of that time. The City’s water reservoirs are refilling. No action is required from residents,
except at properties along Franklin River Road. Those residents have been contacted.

More details on the accident and damage to the waterline can be found at Water Restrictions in
Place Following Logging Truck Accident | City of Port Alberni

The water restrictions affected the City of Port Alberni, Hupačasath First Nation, Tseshaht First
Nation, the Beaver Creek Water Local Service Area, and the Franklin River Road area. The City’s
water quality remained unaffected throughout this incident and remains safe for consumption.
