News Release - Scott Kenny Trail to be Temporarily Closed

jmartens

With the City’s recent sale of approximately 3.5 acres at the south end of Cherry Creek Road for a new commercial development, the owner, LPV Land Development, has advised the City of their intent to begin initial work on Monday, May 29, 2017. This work will involve the falling and clearing of trees to make way for a mix of new light industrial units and a mini-storage facility.

With a portion of the Roger Creek trail network traversing the property, LPV Land Development will be relocating the trail, at their cost, within the property for continued public access and use.

Lathom Road between Margaret and Elizabeth Streets will be closed as well.

Safe Needle Disposal

jmartens

Communities across Vancouver Island are having conversations about how to address inappropriately discarded needles. The challenge is a shared one, and the City would like to provide you with some resources to help you respond to these concerns.

Everyone who uses a needle to inject should dispose of their needles safely.  However, that’s not always the case, and sometimes they are discarded in back alleys, ditches, parks, and other public spaces.

Parks, Recreation & Heritage Phone and Email Disruption

jmartens

The Parks, Recreation and Heritage Department has been experiencing technical issues with their phone system. We are working to fix the problem, however this will require a temporary disconnection of the phone and computer systems on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 8:00am until 5:00pm. This means the phone and email systems at Echo Centre will not be in service and City staff at that facility will not be able to process program registrations, bookings and other specific recreation services.

Effective June 30, 2017 the City will no longer be running Discovery Preschool, opting instead to provide regular children’s recreation programs out of the same facility.
