Vancouver Island Health Authority [VIHA] has detected elevated levels of bacteria in the water at Canal Beach, prompting the issuance of this advisory as a precautionary measure.

Port Alberni, BC - Firefighters from the Port Alberni, Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek, and Sproat Lake Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at the 3600 block of 4th Avenue shortly after 11 pm last night. Unfortunately, one person was found deceased at the scene.

At this time, details surrounding the fire and the identity of the deceased individual are not being released pending further investigation.

Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni Mayor and Council adopted the 2023-2027 Financial Plan and approved three readings of the 2023 Tax Rates Bylaw, at the City Council meeting on April 25, 2023.

The 2023-2027 Financial Plan, which is updated annually, was presented to the newly elected Council for review and feedback over a three-month period starting in February, and underwent thoughtful deliberation involving the public and City staff.

Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni is taking the next step in redevelopment of the Somass Lands, a 43 acre waterfront property where the somass division sawmill formerly operated.

Friday, just over 24 hours after our main waterline to Port Alberni was damaged, the City of Port Alberni was able to restore water flow to City reservoirs. This was possible because of the support we received along the way and because everyone worked together to get it done.

Port Alberni – The City of Port Alberni has restored water to the City and surrounding areas following a
closure that lasted just over 24 hours. All water usage restrictions are lifted.

Port Alberni – The City of Port Alberni’s crew worked through the night with contractors and are 
making progress on repairs to the waterline that was damaged yesterday in a logging truck accident.

As long as there are no unforeseen setbacks on site, the City anticipates the waterline will be 
fully repaired today by the end of day. Water restrictions are still in place, and the City 
appreciates residents going above and beyond to limit their use to essential water use only.
