Water Advisory for Canal Beach Remains in Effect: Sample Delivery Delayed Due to Road Closure

Water Advisory for Canal Beach Remains in Effect: Sample Delivery Delayed Due to Road Closure

Monday, June 12, 2023

Port Alberni, BC - The City of Port Alberni is informing residents and visitors that the water advisory for the Canal Beach area at Canal Waterfront Park remains in effect.

The recent closure of Highway 4 has posed unforeseen challenges in transporting the necessary water samples to VIHA's laboratory for analysis in a timely manner. As a result, we have not yet received the test results required to determine the safety of the water at Canal Beach.

While we acknowledge the inconvenience caused by the delay, we strongly urge residents and visitors to continue adhering to the existing water advisory. Until further notice, it is advised that individuals refrain from swimming, wading, or engaging in any water activities at Canal Beach as a precautionary measure.

The City of Port Alberni will provide regular updates on the progress of sample transportation and the anticipated lifting of the water advisory through our official communication channels.

Our primary concern is the health and well-being of our community members. We are committed to resolving this situation promptly and ensuring a safe environment for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
