The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Ms. Rosalyn Macauley as the new Deputy Director of Finance.

Ms. Macauley comes to the City with over eight years’ experience working in the fields of finance and administration. Most recently, Ms. Macauley worked on the Asset Management implementation program for the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD). Before working with the ACRD, Ms. Macauley was the Senior Accountant with Catalyst Paper in the Port Alberni Division.

The City of Port Alberni and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District are working with the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) School of Community and Regional Planning to gain a better understanding of people’s experiences during the recent tsunami warning.

Starting Wednesday, April 4, 2018, two UBC researchers will be knocking on doors in Port Alberni’s inundation zone to gather data on what worked well and what difficulties were experienced during the evacuation. The information gathered will:

To accommodate future growth in your area construction crews will be installing a short section of sewer main on the south side of Burde Street, just east of Swordfern Lane. This work is in preparation for Phase 2 construction of the Uplands development and is led by McGill and Associates Engineering.

What’s Happening

Starting Thursday, March 1st, 2018, crews will be in your area to construct the new sewer main. Activities associated with this work will include:

 - excavating a trench

 - installing and capping the new main

 The City of Port Alberni and the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) would like to express their gratitude to first responders, emergency service volunteers and the citizens of the Alberni Valley for their amazing response to the recent tsunami warning.

While there is much to celebrate in the way of successes, it is the lessons learned that we must turn our attention to. Both the City and the ACRD have identified a number of steps to improve upon the existing Emergency Response Plan. These include:

PORT ALBERNI, British Columbia, Canada – The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce it has retained Mr. Ken Watson, P.Eng., as Major Projects Coordinator on a short-term basis. 

Ken will be responsible specifically for advising on two of the City’s major infrastructure projects within the community.  These projects include the City’s wastewater treatment plant and lagoon upgrades – one of the largest infrastructure projects in Port Alberni’s history – and the deferral request for source water filtration with Island Health.

While the event takes place in Council Chambers at City Hall (4850 Argyle Street), the e-format means that comments and questions will be received from those in attendance at the meeting, as well as those viewing from the comfort of their home.

The City of Port Alberni is inviting letters of interest from citizens interested in assisting with the review process for the City of Port Alberni’s Community Investment Program.

This Committee reviews the grant applications from not-for-profit community service, multicultural, and recreation/amateur sport organizations, based on the priorities established by City Council.  This Committee also reviews permissive tax exemption applications each year in accordance with Community Charter legislation and Council’s policy.
