Welcome to the Enhanced Security Initiative Program (ESIP) page where we support your efforts to improve the security of Port Alberni's commercial businesses or residential dwellings for everyone's safety.

The ESIP is a matching grant opportunity brought to you by the City of Port Alberni's bylaw and community safety team. Your business or private dwelling may apply for any new safety or security project that you choose with a 50% reimbursement up to a maximum of $1000.00. Examples of security enhancements include video surveillance equipment, security systems, enhanced exterior building/parking lot/lane-way lighting, and deadbolts or door locks.

How do I apply for the program?

What are the key dates for the program?

The City is conducting a review of the program and will be inviting applicants in 2022. Stand-by for updates!

Who reviews the applications?

A Review Committee has been established and consists of the Manager of Community Safety and the Manager of Port Alberni RCMP Community Policing. The Committee's primary responsibility is to review all applications, determine eligibility of enhancements, and make recommendations and decisions.

What types of security enhancements are eligible?

Examples include: video surveillance equipment, security systems, enhanced exterior building/parking lot/lane-way lighting, and deadbolts or door locks.

Who is eligible to apply?

All residential and commercial properties within City limits are eligible for this matching grant, provided the applicant is in "good standing" with the City and meets all application requirements. Both owners and renters can apply. For those looking to enhance security on their rental, you must submit a 'A letter of Approval from the Building/Property Owner' with the application.
