In 2021 the Accessibility British Columbia Act (ABCA) was enacted to foster an inclusive environment and remove barriers for people with disabilities. The City of Port Alberni has partnered with the ACRD to establish a regional Accessibility Committee and develop an accessibility plan. Advertisements inviting folks to apply to join the committee will appear in the newspaper beginning Dec 13th, as well as on social media platforms.

The City is currently updating the Parks Regulation Bylaw governing the operation, control and use of parks and other public places.
Under section 154(1) of the Community Charter a municipal council can, by bylaw, delegate its powers, duties and functions to an officer or employee of the City. The reasons for creating such a bylaw include increasing the efficiency of service delivery, streamlining processes for improved response times, and improving the functionality of Council business. Target date is March 2024.
