Update: Water Restrictions in place following logging truck accident
Update: Water Restrictions in place following logging truck accident
Friday, March 10, 2023
Port Alberni – The City of Port Alberni’s crew worked through the night with contractors and are
making progress on repairs to the waterline that was damaged yesterday in a logging truck accident.
As long as there are no unforeseen setbacks on site, the City anticipates the waterline will be
fully repaired today by the end of day. Water restrictions are still in place, and the City
appreciates residents going above and beyond to limit their use to essential water use only.
“The crew and contractors on site have been working extremely hard all night under difficult
conditions to restore water to the reservoir. They are tired but determined to fix this issue as
soon as possible,” explains City of Port Alberni Mayor Sharie Minions. “We understand that limiting
our water use is difficult and appreciate the support we have received from residents, and also
from other municipalities and First Nations.”
More details on the accident and damage to the water line can be found at Water Restrictions in
Place Following Logging Truck Accident | City of Port Alberni.
The water restrictions are affecting the City of Port Alberni, Hupačasath First Nation, Tseshaht
First Nation, the Beaver Creek Water Local Service Area, and the Franklin River Road area. These
restrictions will be in place until further notice. Residents are asked to conserve as much water
as possible during this time. Residents should limit uses such as showers, dishes, and other
non-essential activities.
The City’s water quality is unaffected by this incident and remains safe for consumption.
Updates will be provided as new information is available on social media platforms. An alert will
be issued through VoyentAlert! when the water restrictions are lifted. You can register for this
