City Acquires Former Tidebrook Motel Property

Council for the City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the City’s purchase of the former Tidebrook Motel property at 4356 Gertrude Street.  The purchase price of the property is $195,000 and the deal completed on August 31st, 2015.

The acquisition of this property is an important step towards implementation of the Waterfront North Study.  This long range plan, completed in 2014, identified that the Victoria Quay area could be greatly enhanced by extending the existing waterfront trail to create a pedestrian or cyclist link between Victoria Quay and Rogers Creek Park.

“I’m delighted that we have been able to finalize the purchase of the former Tidebrook Motel property,” said Mayor Mike Ruttan. “This is a forward looking decision that provides us with the opportunity to revitalize this important piece of property to the maximum benefit of our community and taxpayers”.

Acquiring this property provides the City with a long-term hold on an important site that has a number of development opportunities.

In the short-term the City will ensure the property is safe and well maintained and Council will discuss longer term objectives as part of the upcoming Five Year Financial Plan process.
