City Hires New Director of Engineering and Public Works

Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni is pleased to announce the hiring of Rob Dickinson as the new Director of Engineering and Public Works.

Mr. Dickinson comes to the City with extensive knowledge in the field of engineering, bringing over 25 years of experience to this position. Most recently, Mr. Dickinson worked as the Engineering and Capital Works Manager for the Town of Okotoks where he specialized in engineering design, project management, public engagement, process analysis and strategic planning. Prior to that, Mr. Dickinson has held a variety of engineering positions including Director of Engineering and GIS with the City of Vernon and Lead Engineer while working in consulting roles in Saskatoon and Calgary.

“I am very pleased that Rob Dickinson is joining the City team and our community,” said Tim Pley, City of Port Alberni’s Chief Administrative Officer. “The City is experiencing unprecedented interest in development, and City Council has established a clear vision for our path forward. As the City’s Director of Engineering and Public Works, Rob will play an integral role in implementing Council’s strategic vision. Rob’s career achievements as a civil engineer are such that he could have his pick of many communities that are actively searching for such a leader. Port Alberni is fortunate that Rob has chosen us.”

In this new role, Mr. Dickinson will be responsible for overseeing the City’s engineering and infrastructure projects, City Works project planning and operations, as well as the management of Engineering and City Works staff resources.

“As someone who was born and raised in a small town, I have a strong sense of community and a deep appreciation for the connections between the municipal team and residents,” said Rob Dickinson. “I am thrilled to bring my passion for engineering to Port Alberni and I am eager to contribute to the community’s growth and development.”

Mr. Dickinson will assume his new role on January 4, 2021.
