News Release - Theresa Kingston Announces Retirement

Theresa Kingston, Director of Community Services announced today that she will retire at the end of June, after 40 years of distinguished service with the City of Port Alberni.

Kingston has held various leadership positions during her tenure, serving as the head of Parks, Recreation and Heritage since 2015, following 13 years as the Manager of Human Resources and Community Development, and later as the Director of Corporate Services.

“Theresa's leadership and dedication have made her's a long career of professional civil service,” said Mayor Mike Ruttan. “She has tirelessly served the people of Port Alberni and been instrumental in advancing our services and the well-being of our community."    

During her tenure, Kingston has played an integral role in building partnerships with a wide range of community groups and spearheading a number of initiatives within the organization and throughout the municipal sector. This includes a key role with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Migrant Labour Rights Project in China.            

“We’ve been fortunate to have someone as dedicated to the community as Theresa has been,” said Tim Pley, Chief Administrative Officer. “Her leadership skills, knowledge and spirit of collaboration have earned the respect and trust of the entire community, and she will be greatly missed.”   

A recruitment process to replace Kingston will commence immediately.
