City Hires New Manager of Recreation Services

On Thursday, December 19, 2019, the City of Port Alberni awarded the position of Manager of Recreation Services in the Parks, Recreation and Heritage Department to Mr. Shawn Bourgoin.

Mr. Bourgoin comes to the City of Port Alberni with over 25 years of experience in aquatic and recreation services. Most recently, Mr. Bourgoin worked for the Town of Comox as their Recreation Supervisor, and previous to that was with the Canadian Recreation Excellence Corporation as their General Manager.

In his new role, Mr. Bourgoin will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing public recreation operations, services and programs, as well as administering the activities throughout the City’s parks and recreation facilities, playgrounds, parks, fields and other sport and leisure service areas.

“I am thrilled that someone of Shawn’s calibre, with extensive experience in the public and private recreation sectors, is joining our team,” said Willa Thorpe, Director of Parks, Recreation and Heritage. “Shawn’s knowledge and education will be key in further developing our guests’ positive experiences and our dryland, aquatic and arena programs.”

"As the new Manager of Recreation Services for the City of Port Alberni, I will be committed to creating a safe and healthy recreation experience by working with local community members," said Mr. Bourgoin. “My goal is to ensure that Port Alberni’s recreation programs and services are maintained to a high quality standard and are accessible for all to enjoy.”

Mr. Bourgoin will assume his new role on January  20, 2020.
