'Where is Here' Event - Saturday April 9

'Where is Here' Event - Saturday April 9

Take pride in your community – take part in Port Alberni's “Where Is Here” this Saturday April 9 2016.  We invite you to a cultural mapping event coordinated by the City of Port Alberni and Vancouver Island University.  This is an opportunity to

  • Share what you value about your downtown
  • Participate in an exciting community project
  • Connect with other residents and deepen your civic pride

Additional Event Info:
The Port Alberni 'Where is Here' event is scheduled for SATURDAY, April 9th - and will take place in both the Uptown Area (Char's Landing - 4815 Argyle St. across from City Hall) and in Lower Johnson (Twin City Brewing - 4503 Margaret St. -corner of Margaret and Southgate - the former home of Lucky Printers). We're asking residents and stakeholders to speak on-camera for up to 90 seconds about the place within their city's downtown (or major hub area) where they feel most 'connected to community' (total time commitment for residents is approximately one hour).

We've scheduled a series of walk-abouts throughout the day in each location (10am, 11am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm), in which small groups of participants meet at these locations, and then walk together through the area - stopping to take videos at pre-identified 'connect-spots'. Videos will be uploaded to an online map of the area, and made available to the public.

This is intended to be a fun event... small groups will walk together and listen to each participant's connect-spot story. Each walk-about ends with hot coco and cookies.

If you would like to participate, please email sharonkarsten@live.com with the following info:

1. Your Connect-spot area (ie: EITHER Uptown OR Lower Johnson area)

2. Your Connect-spot location (ie: where is your 'connect-spot' within either of these areas? - within a 15-minute walking radius of Char's Landing OR Twin City Brewing)

3. A short blurb about why you feel connected to this spot, and

4. A preferred time-slot on Saturday, April 9th (10am, 11am, 12:30 or 1:30pm).

Sharon will email back to confirm, and will be in communication closer to the event to give a few extra details.

Thanks again for your participation. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Also, please spread the word - we are hoping to get lots of people out to share their stories. For more information please see the attached ‘Call for Participants’ and/OR visit the project facebook page or webpage.
