North Park Drive Sewer Main Replacement and Road Upgrade Project

North Park Drive Sewer Main Replacement and Road Upgrade Project

To accommodate future growth and improve drainage in your area, crews from the City of Port Alberni’s Public Works Department will be replacing a new sewer main on North Park Drive between and 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue.

What’s Happening

Starting Monday, April 23rd, 2018, crews will mobilize on North Park Drive at 7th Avenue to begin this project. Activities associated with this will include:

  • excavating a trench
  • installing sections of sewer main in the roadway
  • tying the new main into the existing sewer system
  • backfilling and compacting the excavated trench
  • laying the road surface, forming new curbs and upgrading drainage basins
  • restoring affected surface areas

This work is expected to take approximately one month to complete, during which time excavated material, pipe, and other relevant construction equipment will be stored on site.

Work Hours and Noise

Work hours and associated noise will generally occur Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Crews will attempt, wherever practical, to reduce noise impacts.

Traffic and Access

North Park Drive between 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue will experience temporary road closures as work moves west to east. Traffic control personnel will be on site and access to local side streets will be maintained where possible.

Utility Services

There may be times when your utility (water/sewer) services are interrupted as a result of this work. Crews will attempt to notify affected residences in advance. Any interruptions will be temporary and short-term.

Safety

Site safety measures will be in place throughout the project. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are asked to pay close attention to construction signage and follow the direction of traffic control personnel when in the area.

Restoration

As work progresses, the excavated trench will be backfilled and the road restored with a temporary drivable road surface.

Following completion of sewer main installation activities, crews will return to 7th Avenue and begin curb-to-curb road restoration. Please note this activity is weather dependent and will require a full road closure.
