City of Port Alberni Launches Next Phase in Official Community Plan

Port Alberni, BC - The City of Port Alberni is ready to launch the next phase of the engagement process for the Official Community Plan (OCP), a blueprint that sets out the long-term vision and goals that will guide the community’s growth and success over the long term.

The OCP is one of the City’s most important documents and is a plan to map our community’s path for the next two decades. This plan shapes the everyday things residents experience – like housing, economic development, transportation, land use, how we tackle climate change, and much more.

"Community involvement and residents’ feedback is the cornerstone of this document, which is why we’re excited to launch the next phase of engagement,” said Director of Development Services/Deputy CAO Scott Smith. "Port Alberni is at a pivotal moment in its growth and development and we want to ensure everyone can participate meaningfully in shaping the future of our City."

In February and March, City staff will host community engagement discussions and events in person and online to gather ideas and feedback from the public on growth scenarios and climate action.

The process to develop the Port Alberni OCP will involve the Hupača̓sath and Tseshaht First Nation communities, Council, the public, City staff, community organizations, businesses and schools.  The City will also utilize community representatives from a diversity of professional backgrounds and expertise that will provide advice, insight and feedback and spread the word to their networks about the OCP project.
