Climate Change Committee

Climate Change Committee

In early 2008 Council for the City of Port Alberni appointed a Climate Change Committee to investigate and recommend practical actions for the City and community to undertake to help reduce the negative impacts of climate change. This initiative also tied closely with the implementation of the City’s commitment under the Climate Action Charter to become carbon neutral by 2012.

This committee was comprised of:

  • Councillor Mealey, Chair
  • School District #70 Appointment
  • Residents at large, a maximum of 6, selected to include a broad range of interests and ages
  • Staff resources to include the City Engineer and the City Clerk

The committee met regularly and submitted its final report to Council on May 28, 2008. The report detailed seven recommendations which were subsequently considered and approved in separate motions by Council on July 14, 2008.

The City of Port Alberni values the contribution of the Committee and thanks the members for their hard work in researching and preparing the final report. Staff is continuing to work on implementation of the direction provided by Council based on the report.
