Fire
Fueling Station
The Fire Department refuels all of its fleet using the Fire Dept. Fueling Station which is located on the property. While having the fueling station on-site increases efficiency it is also required for post-disaster to ensure that the Fire Dept. has a known, adequate fuel supply to continue to respond to incidents. The current fueling station has reached the end of its operational lifespan.
Replace Rescue 8
Rescue 8 is our primary vehicle to use for wildfires. It is smaller than full-sized apparatus and is outfitted with equipment to be able to draught water from creeks and ponds. This vehicle has reached the end of its operational lifespan. To continue to respond to wildfires effectively without interruption we are planning to replace it with a new vehicle and equipment that can reliably fulfill these duties.
Replace Light Vehicle
The light vehicle "Alberni 19" is an essential part of our daily operations, serving as the primary mode of transport for the Fire Chief and also facilitating equipment transportation by our crew. However, it has reached the end of its operational lifespan. To continue our routine activities without interruption, we are planning to replace it with a new vehicle that can reliably fulfill these duties.
Fire Master Plan
The Fire Department commissioned a Fire Master Plan (FMP). This FMP looked at climate change, increasing call volumes, increased densification and future plans for the City of Port Alberni to determine what equipment, personnel and other resources are required now and, in the future, to continue to provide excellent response from Port Alberni Fire Dept.
Replacement of Light Vehicle
The light vehicle was purchased in December 2023 with installation of radio, emergency equipment and decals completed in early 2024.
Confined Space Equipment Replacement
Port Alberni Fire Department offers specialized Confined Space Rescue services. The equipment integral to these operations ensures prompt and secure rescue operations. In our continuous efforts to maintain the highest standard of service, we're prioritizing the replacement and upgrade of this crucial gear.
Replacement of Aerial Truck
“Ladder 2”, the City's long-running ladder truck, was over 25 years old and no longer recognized by the fire underwriters survey due to its age.
The replacement aerial truck, now in service, boasts an extended reach of an additional 25 feet and features a platform at its apex. This enhancement will provide a safer working environment for our firefighters and a more secure method of public rescue.
