PORT ALBERNI, B.C. – August 15, 2025 - In response to the Mount Underwood Fire, the City of Port Alberni, in tandem with the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, is implementing Stage 3 Water Restrictions, effective immediately.

Stage 3 restrictions are necessary to help preserve our community’s drinking water supply and ensure there is adequate water available for essential needs, including fire protection.

Under Stage 3 Water Restrictions:

  • Watering of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers is permitted; however, the days are reduced:
           - even-numbered addresses can sprinkle on Saturdays, 6-9 am or 6-9 pm.
           - odd-numbered addresses can sprinkle on Sundays, 6-9 am or 6-9 pm.
  • Watering of new (unestablished) lawns, trees and shrubs is prohibited for all residential, commercial, and institutional properties unless permission has been granted by the City of Port Alberni.
  • Filling or topping up swimming pools, hot tubs, ponds, or decorative fountains is prohibited.
  • Vehicle washing is prohibited except for safety-related reasons (e.g., removing mud for visibility).
  • Pressure washing is prohibited except for health and safety purposes.

The City thanks residents and businesses for their cooperation in conserving water during this critical period. By working together, we can protect our water resources and ensure supply for essential community needs.

City staff will continue to monitor water supply conditions and will advise the community when restrictions can be eased or elevated.
