City of Port Alberni to Recognize National Day of Mourning

Thursday, September 15, 2022

Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni will observe the national holiday on Monday, September 19, 2022, to mark the federally announced day of mourning for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

“The City of Port Alberni joins all Canadians in mourning the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” said Mayor Sharie Minions.

“The Queen's passing will mean different things to different people, and in a time when we are reconciling the wrongs of our past, the death of a Monarch takes on added meaning for many. On behalf of City Council I want to express our condolences and reflect on the dignity and poise that Queen Elizabeth II portrayed while fulfilling a lifetime commitment not of her choosing, and through changing times.”

In recognizing this day, services offered by the City will be affected. City facility closures will include:

City Hall

Public Works

Echo 67’ Centre

Echo Aquatic Centre & Fitness Studio

Glenwood Centre

The Multiplex will offer reduced hours from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Residents will see a change to their Solid Waste Collection schedule next week with pick-up delayed by one day. For full details on collection days, download the Sort’nGo ACRD app on your mobile device or call Public Works at 250.720.2840.
