City of Port Alberni Announces the Newly Acquired Public Safety Building
Wednesday, December 2, 2020
Port Alberni, BC – The City of Port Alberni is excited to announce the creation of the Public Safety Building.
In alignment with Council’s Corporate Strategic Plan goal of fostering a complete community that is safe, healthy and inclusive, the City has purchased a building located at 3075 3rd Avenue in the Uptown District. This building will be renovated to house the public safety team and is scheduled to open mid-2021.
“It is a priority for Council that the Uptown District be a safe, welcoming and vibrant area where the community can come together,” said Mayor Sharie Minions. “We heard clearly from citizens that public safety was the top priority in the Uptown area, so we looked to our neighbouring communities for successful strategies. We have observed great success where protective services have come together to serve their communities in a street-level, accessible space creating an environment where all citizens feel welcome. We are excited to reach this critical step and make our Public Safety Building a reality.”
The Public Safety Building will bolster the City’s innovative approach to community safety and help address current and emerging public safety challenges. This office will house Bylaw Services and Community Policing, as well as include space for other partnering agencies such as the RCMP. A public access washroom also will be incorporated into the building.
The creation of a Public Safety Building highlights the City’s commitment to provide all residents with a safe community in which we live, work and play.
