Port Alberni Competing to Become Gamestown 2010
In a recent News Release, the province announced that Port Alberni had become the 100th community to submit an entry into ActNow BC’s GamesTown 2010 competition, which allows communities to showcase their healthy living and Olympic spirit.
Entries will be judged on the creativity and enthusiasm of their submissions that reflect healthy living, environmental sustainability, level of community engagement at recreation facilities and in amateur sports, the spirit of the 2010 Games and the community’s participation in the World Healthy Living Challenge.
A panel of BC celebrities will select gold, silver and bronze medal winners to receive cash awards of $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000 respectively, to put towards upgrading a local sport or healthy living facility.
This community is so well known for its ability to host major events, none of which would be possible without the amazing volunteers who step forward time and time again to make things happen.
