FCM Award for Outstanding International Volunteer Contribution - Institutional Category

Awards were presented at the recent FCM Conference in Whistler by the Honourable Beverley J. Oda and FCM President Jean Perrault, Mayor of Sherbrooke, Que., to recognize the excellent contributions of Canadian municipalities and individuals who have participated in FCM’s international programs. The City of Port Alberni was one of four municipalities to receive the award for Outstanding International Volunteer Contribution. City Manager, Ken Watson and City Engineer, Guy Cicon were recognized for their work on post-tsunami reconstruction projects in Sri Lanka. Theresa Kingston, the City's Manager of Human Resources and Community Development, has been involved with the Migrant Labour Rights project in China and is returning to China in July to continue her work there.
