The City of Port Alberni has adopted over 4,700 bylaws. Bylaws are required for significant decisions and commitments made by City Council including the establishment of the financial plan, borrowing, regulations and land use controls. A bylaw requires a series of resolutions (readings) by Council which are made over at least two Council meetings on separate days. In certain circumstances bylaws may require public hearings (matters of zoning the community plan), approvals by provincial ministries, or a 2/3 majority of Council. Provincial legislation including the Community Charter and Local Government Act prescribe the specific requirements for the adoption of bylaws.
The following bylaws are provided for convenience only and do not represent the official versions of the bylaw. All official copies of the City’s bylaws including supporting documentation are available for inspection at the City Clerk's office. We are more than willing to provide copies of the bylaws at a nominal cost.
