The City of Port Alberni turns 100 in 2012!
It's a story of two railways, a land development company, entrepreneurs, the activities of two Boards of Trade and 'The Committee of 11". March 1, 1912 BC Lieutenant Governor T.W. Paterson created the City of Port Alberni, the fifth incorporated city on Vancouver Island. On March 27, the seven nominees for mayor and council were acclaimed to office. The first council meeting was held April 1, 1912. The following year, in January 1913, the City of Alberni was incorporated.
100 years later the City of Port Alberni is celebrating! The official inaugural event commemorates the first council meeting and there will be festivites throughout the year. SAVE THE DATE - all residents and friends and family are invited to Homecoming Weekend in August.
It doesn't end there, join in the fun on Sunday January 20, 2013 to celebrate the incorporation of the City of Alberni.
There will be events and activities all year long. Visit this website for updates - and do join in!
