Society members in attendance to make a presentation to Council regarding the upcoming Theatre BC North Island Zone Drama Festival, requesting Council's endorsement by proclaiming the week of May 20 to 27, 2006 as "Drama Festival Week" in Port Alberni and asking if the Mayor will be available in the evening on Saturday, May 20th to officially open the festival with the performance of "Misery".

Letter dated April 12, 2006 advising that the Nuu-chah Nulth Tribal Council and Tseshaht First Nation has been selected to co-host the 30th Annual BC Elders Gathering, July 18 to 20, 2006 at the Alberni Valley Multiplex and are seeking sponsorship and donations which will be used for event coordination, participant meals and snacks, facility/equipment rental fees, workshops, self-care, entertainment, activities and tours (information attached).

Letter dated April 19, 2006 advising that Dorothy Clarkstone is acting for Karen Richir with respect to the purchase of the Heartspun Wool Shop which is scheduled to complete on May 5, 2006.
That Council for the City of Port Alberni agree to the assignment of lease for Alberni Harbour Quay, Unit #9 (Heartspun Wool Shop), from Heather Young to Karen Richir effective May 5, 2006.

Letter received April 13, 2006 advising they are hosting the 2006 Western Canadian Bantam A Boys and B Girls Softball Championships at Echo Minor Field, and are requesting a representative from the City on Friday, August 4 at 12:30 pm at the opening ceremonies to welcome the Athletes to Port Alberni as well as a donation of City pins to give in a gift package.

transfer of the Strategic Forest Alliance Corporation including financial assets of
$7,000.
That Council for the City of Port Alberni accept the transfer of the Strategic
Forest Alliance Corporation with assets of approximately $7,000 on the
condition that costs and financial liabilities do not exceed these assets, in
exchange for the sum of one (1) dollar.
8. Director of Parks and Recreation - Roger Street Development (KW) - Page 143
Report dated April 11, 2006 advising that logging has been completed on the City
land on the Roger Street development and proposing that they use the log
revenues to undertake the development and landscape improvements, and
would also like to conduct a meeting with area resident to discuss plans for the
area which could include a walkway connection from Echo Park to the hydro
right-of-way and tree planting.

10. City Engineer - Public Request to Pave Shoulders of 2700 Block 6th Avenue (JM) - Page 147
Report dated April 19, 2006 in response to a petition received from the residents of the 2700 Block of 6th Avenue requesting the paving of the gravel shoulders, and advising that the road is not in the 5 Year Capital Plan.
That the report from the City Engineer dated April 19, 2006 be received and the recommendation to fill any pot holes and grade shoulders with asphalt grindings as part of the 2006 maintenance operations, be approved.
11. City Clerk - Chamber of Commerce - Tourism Initiative (KW) - Page 150
Report dated April 19, 2006 attaching the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce request for funding to develop the Tourism Advisory Council. They are requesting City funding in the amount of $11,200 and are asking that the City apply for provincial funding in the amount of $35,600. (Please note: letter of request is on page 184).
That Council for the City of Port Alberni agree to provide $11,200 for the Chamber of Commerce Tourism Advisory Council, on the condition that the 2% hotel tax is adopted by the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and the City and Chamber prepare the required application for $35,600 in provincial funding.
12. City Clerk - Crystal Meth Awareness Program (KW) - Page 186
Report dated April 19, 2006 advising that the City has a Crystal Meth Task Force; the Chair is Mrs. Gillian Trumper, a press release is attached, and $10,000 is available from the province to create resource inventories and provide awareness campaigns.
That Council for the City of Port Alberni apply to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities for $10,000 in funding to support the local Crystal Meth awareness program.
13. City Clerk - Abashiri Twinning Reaffirmation (CM) - Page 188
Report dated April 19, 2006 advising that the City's twinning with sister City Abashiri, Japan is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and requesting Council's endorsement of the accord to be reaffirmed on June 18, 2006.
14. City Manager - 2006 Rail Track License Agreement with Island Corridor Foundation (JM) - Page 189
Report dated April 19, 2006 attaching a copy of the 2006 Rail Track License Agreement proposed to be signed between the City and Island Corridor Foundation (ICF).
That Council for the City of Port Alberni authorize the Mayor and Clerk to execute the 2006 Rail Track License Agreement with Island Corridor Foundation on the City's behalf.
